The new building comprises Employment Center, Business Center, Center for Telematic Services, Exhibition Center for local products, Conferences Center etc.</font> <p><font size="2">The Chamber's main objectives, as far as the support of the activities of its company-members is concerned, are the following:</font> <ul> <li><font size="2">Operation of the Credit Cooperation of Lesvos-Lemnos which recently succeed (according to the aim of the Chamber) to accumulate the necessary sums and therefore to become a Cooperative Bank.</font></li> <li><font size="2">Operation of a North Aegean branch of the Hellenic Organization for Exports in the building of the Chamber, resulting close cooperation between two organizations in several activities, as participation in International Fairs, realization of seminars, organization of business missions, edition of entrepreneurial guides and local products ones, etc.</font></li> <li><font size="2">Foundation of the Development Company "Lesvos Chamber Development Company" in which funds, besides the Chamber of Lesvos participate the "Hellenic Organization for Exports", the "Aegean University" and the "Economic University of Athens".</font></li> <li><font size="2">Operation of a Center responsible for rendering services of consulting and technical aid to Small and Medium Enterprises of the region, for the basic activities of the area (food, drinks, fishing products), as well as for a presentation of various aspects of tourism and trade to the visitors. The services rendered by this Support Center, include the consulting on issues concerning the Greek and Community legislation, taxes, the exploitation of opportunities for investment, the funding from Community and National Programs, or the development of new products and markets etc.</font></li> <li><font size="2">Operation of a Board by experts, designed to provide services to small industrial and commercial businesses, aiming at planning a new business strategy for the development of new industrial and commercial activities (hygienic food products, biological cultivation, agricultural tourism etc.) as well as for the improvement of systems of communication, cooperation distribution, promotion, information, protection of the environment and rational use of energy on behalf of the companies.</font></li> </ul> <p><font size="2">ADMINISTRATION OF THE CHAMBER:</font></p> <p><font size="2">The Chamber, being a professional body, is administered by a Board of Trustees which consists of 41 members.<br> The Administrative Committee (consisted of 5 members) and its President is responsible for the Board's daily operation.</font></p> <p><font size="2">STAFF:</font></p> <p><font size="2">The Chamber's permanent staff consists of 6 people, from whom two have obtained University education (economists).<br> In addition, 3 people from the permanent staff speak English, German and Dutch.</font></p> <p><font size="2">COLLABORATORS:</font></p> <p><font size="2">Apart from the permanent staff and in special cases, the Chamber collaborates with a number of external collaborators, (individuals or companies), to whom the Chamber occasionally, assigns specific projects.<br> The Chamber also closely collaborates with the University of the Aegean on issues concerning the implementation of various projects as well as with the Company for the Local Development of Lesvos, the Greek Productivity Center, the Organization of Exports Promotion and other public and private sectors.</font></p> <p><font size="2">OFFICE STRUCTURE:</font></p> <p><font size="2">The Chamber is fully equipped with computer office system consisted of twenty two (22) PCs, nine (9) printers, one (1) photocopier, one (1) fax message machine, one (1) laptop, one (1) ISDN and five (5) minitels.<br> It possesses a fully computerized management system of its members' records.<br> Furthermore, to the technical equipment and the Chamber's structure are incorporated and are ready for use, the following:</font></p> <ul type="circle"> <li><font size="2">The system of tourist promotion which has been developed by a team from the Department of Business Administration of the University of the Aegean.<br> The system offers the possibility to users to immediately obtain not only tourist but also other business information, concerning the island of Lesvos. This system has been presented in several displays and is expected to operate on a permanent basis at an extension on the ground floor of the Chamber's building (Business Centre).</font></li> <li><font size="2">The Videotext System, in which the mass entry of data and information has already been completed and is ready to start the operation of the final stage of implementation.<br> The Chamber's main objective is to try to incorporate the system in the HELLASTEL, provided there is a HELLASPAC line.</font></li> <li><font size="2">The Chamber of Lesvos has also a web site in INTERNET, and a dial up connection with it, as well as with the Taxation Review Digital Information.</font></li> </ul> <p><font size="2">THE CHAMBER AND EUROPEAN PROGRAMS:</font></p> <p><font size="2">The Chamber of Lesvos, as part of its effort to serve its members' needs, has been acted towards utilizing the European Community Programs.<br> The action focuses on the following sectors:</font></p> <blockquote> <p><font size="2">EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS THAT HAVE BEEN REALIZED:</font></p> <ol> <li><font size="2">"Specialization - Vocational training of enterprises' members/Employees" Support and development to provide economic vigor to enterprises/members of the Chamber. (1992-93/Seminar)</font></li> <li><font size="2">"ODYSSEIA" Program Creation of Associations by youth Organization and operation of employment/co-operatives INTEGRA</font></li> <li><font size="2">"PEGASUS" Program Operation of Tele-ecotechnic Centers ADAPT</font></li> <li><font size="2">"Chamber Net" ADAPT <br> 4.1 Tele-training/Creation of a compulsory model sustain the SMEs.<br> 4.2 Operation of Regional Employment Observatories/Equipment supply and operation/application in local level.</font></li> <li><font size="2">Regional Operation Programs for Northern Aegean:<br> Sub-program 3/Action 3.2 "Specialization - Vocational training of enterprises' members / employees"</font></li> </ol> </blockquote> <p><font size="2">OTHER ACTIVITIES:</font></p> <p><font size="2">The Chamber of Lesvos is the inspirer of the "1st Cyprus-Aegean-Traki Regional Entrepreneurial Conference" which first realized in Mytilene in 1997 and is repeated every year in a different place of the districts mentioned.<br> The Chamber of Lesvos, has also made considerable efforts to provide the economic and commercial relations between the islands of Aegean and the opposite Turkish coasts. According to this pursuit, in November of 1998, a Conference organized in Mytilene by the Chamber of Lesvos with subject "1st Economic Conference of Aegean Islands and Turkish Coast Chambers" and several business missions have taken place through last years.
